ABOUT THE ART
This mural is a modern take on a landscape, based on a panoramic view of the city. The artist wanted to take something traditional, like a landscape painting, and give it a contemporary twist. The work reflects the energy and movement of Dublin, how things in the city overlap, shift, and interact with each other.
For over twenty years, I’ve painted directly onto the walls of Dublin.
That experience shaped how I see
and respond to my surroundings.– Maser, the artist
The mural is abstract but grounded in place. You can see suggestions of a cityscape, a sun setting over Dublin, but more than anything it’s about capturing the energy and movement of the city. Things layer, align, clash, and come together, just like life in an urban setting.
The mural was commissioned by Irish Life to acknowledge the importance of art in any city but particularly in Maser’s home town of Dublin. It is part of a wider project to support the arts that includes dedicating three houses within the development for use as studios by local artists.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Maser began his artistic journey in 1995, adopting his moniker while painting graffiti on the streets of his hometown. His unique abstract style quickly garnered respect within the graffiti community. He lives and works within 100 metres of the development. Maser studied Visual Communication in Dublin, earning an award from the International Society of Typographic Designers. This academic background, combined with his street art experience, has shaped his vibrant and socially engaged artistic practice. He is a major voice and advocate for community art, runs a key artists mentorship programme for young and disadvantaged artists in Dublin.
After spending years painting on the city, I’m now taking inspiration from it, how its flow, its structures, people and patterns, and feeding it back into the work, then placing that work back into the city itself. Like a full circle.
